Our Rainy-Day Wedding: The Cake

Remember my original cake inspiration?

I wasn't into wedding cakes at all until I happened upon this ribbony confection.  At first, our venue's coordinator expressed doubt as to whether the baker could recreate something like this in tiered form.  But after I sent the baker these photos, she was positive she could make this cake for us.

I left it in her hands and was pleasantly surprised on our wedding day to find that she'd gone above and beyond what I expected in bringing our cake vision to life.

After our tasting last summer, we chose the apple cake with brown sugar frosting.  The inside of the cake was a lovely, light brown color.  I thought the buttercream ribbons looked gorgeous in the off- white color.  I liked that the flower accents were small and subtle.

Here, you can see more of the setup with our black-and-white photos (taken by SIL J-Dawg) and the Dude's cookie tower grooms' cake.

And here are some close-ups of the cookies.

They were supposed to be homemade by me, but I ended up going with our favorite local cookie delivery place to save my sanity.  (If you live in Dallas or Austin, definitely check out Tiff's Treats.  Yum!)

Now for some cake-cutting action shots.

The Dude fed me, playing it sweet, as previously agreed. (That was the only bite of cake I got all night!)

I returned the favor.

This next move got a big "Awww" from our guests.  I swear, it was totally instinctual--I have to wipe stuff out of the Dude's beard all the time!

Not sure what he's saying to me here, but I bet it was something nice.
